Chelsea talent takes responsibility for wasted 6 months, showing top mentality

Andrey Santos has headed off to join the Brazil team for the Olympic football qualifiers going on this month in South America.

It gives the midfielder a great chance for some minutes after a season which has been a disaster so far on that front. His loan to Nottingham Forest saw him play just 97 minutes between August and January, and he’s just one of a few Blues who can say their first half of the season was a waste thanks to a poor choice of loan destination.

Back in his native Brazil, Santos spoke to Globo about his spell at Forest and what went wrong. He took a lot of the blame which others might put on the Chelsea sporting directors:

“[The loan] was my choice. Unfortunately it wasn’t what we all imagined. I was always ready but it was the coach’s choice, and I respect that. Thank God, I’m back at Chelsea, ready to give my best in any team I go to.”

Santos seems in good spirits, and we hope he shines with Brazil and sets himself up for a good loan in the second half of the season.

Chelsea are clearly thinking about keeping him around the first team squad, but we think that would be a mistake.
