Mauricio Pochettino handed Chelsea lifeline with Todd Boehly’s ‘beautiful football’ claim

Todd Boehly has praised Chelsea’s recent form in a hint that Mauricio Pochettino still has a long-term future at the club.

The Blues have enjoyed an impressive run of form in the Premier League. The last three games have seen Chelsea earn seven points with the draw against Aston Villa being followed by victories against Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham.

As a result, Chelsea have climbed up the table and above Manchester United into seventh place. Now Pochettino and Co. will be targeting the securing of European football across the final three fixtures of the campaign.

Pochettino’s future as Chelsea manager has been the subject of intense speculation throughout the season. Defeats in the Carabao Cup final and FA Cup semi-final mean that the Blues will finish the campaign without a major trophy, and a lack of European football for another season saw Pochettino’s long-term future be the subject of debate.

However, it seems that Boehly has been left impressed by what Chelsea have accomplished in recent games. The Blues co-owner has explained why what he has seen from the last three games matches his long-term vision for the club.

Speaking at the Sportico conference in Los Angeles on Wednesday (as per The Athletic), he said: “We’ve seen the last two and a half games, at least in the second half at Aston Villa and Tottenham and West Ham where we played just beautiful football.

“It was so fluid, it was exactly the way we drew it up, when we came out of the back, built up and moved up the pitch, (it was) very organised and the number of shots we had on board. In those two and a half games, you could really start to see what we were working on coming together.

“Even the commentary has changed over the last two and a half games. I’ve never seen anything change so quickly.”
