Romano on latest Chelsea transfer news and the accuracy

Romano’s Chelsea transfer news might not be so accurate according to recent reports; What happened

Fabrizio Romano doesn’t get a lot wrong, but his timing here was unfortunate.

Speaking in his fascinating regular Daily Briefing for Caughtoffside this morning, the transfer guru was asked about likely Chelsea sales in January, and he leapt at the chance to mention one that he was very certain about:

“In terms of centre-backs, I expect Chelsea to sell Trevoh Chalobah, it seems 99% likely because he wants to play football,”

We have no doubts on that, but it seems that Romano’s sources have let him down on this one, as he said it just a couple of hours before Florian Plettenberg had the story that Chalobah has suffered another muscular tear and will be out until the end of January – killing his chances of moving anywhere.

There’s also the sad prospect that this injury pretty much wipes out Chalobah’s whole season. He’s not played a minute yet, and he’s buried so deep on the defender depth chart. If he returns too late in January to secure a move anywhere else, we might see him miserably stuck with us all season not able to get in the team at all.

That truly would be a pity for such a nice academy kid and such a good player.
