Pedro Neto’s first words as Chelsea players after five years at Wolverhampton Wanderers

According to Daily Mirror, Pedro Neto has emphasized that his entire career has been dedicated to reaching Chelsea, following his £54 million transfer to Stamford Bridge.

Neto, who spent the past five years at Wolverhampton Wanderers, was awarded the club’s Players’ Player of the Season and Supporters’ Player of the Season in 2021. He has now signed a seven-year contract with Chelsea, marking a significant step in his career.

The 24-year-old is expected to debut in Chelsea’s Premier League opener against Manchester City next Saturday. His arrival makes him Chelsea’s ninth signing of the summer transfer window and their most expensive acquisition of the year.

Neto began his professional career with Braga and later joined Lazio, where he won the Coppa Italia in 2019. He views his move to Chelsea as a major advancement, despite the club’s challenging preseason, which has seen them struggle with form.

“I feel really grateful to have joined this club,” Neto remarked after his transfer was finalized on Sunday. “I have worked really hard in my career to be here and I’m looking forward to getting on the pitch with this shirt.”

Chelsea confirmed that Neto will integrate with Enzo Maresca’s squad in the coming days. The Blues, who had won only one preseason match before Sunday’s clash with Inter Milan, are eager to see Neto add quality and depth to their squad.

Chelsea’s statement read: ” Chelsea is delighted to announce the signing of Portugal international Pedro Neto from Wolverhampton Wanderers. Pedro has signed a seven-year contract and will begin training with his new teammates at Cobham in the coming days.”

Wolves extended their best wishes to Neto but highlighted that the deal was advantageous for both sides. Sporting director Matt Hobbs acknowledged Neto’s talent but also expressed concern over his injury history.

“Everyone knows the player Pedro is – he’s a world-class winger who has been so unlucky with injuries. We’ll miss him not just on the pitch but also around the training ground with his energy and relationships,” Hobbs said.

“The deal works well for both us and Pedro, though it doesn’t make it any easier. The reason we acquire players like Pedro is due to our model, which isn’t always popular. For the club, it’s the right deal at the right time.”

Neto’s transfer to Chelsea comes at a time when the Blues are looking to strengthen their squad following a season of upheaval. The club’s new signings, including Neto, are expected to play key roles in their bid to challenge for top honors in the Premier League and beyond. The move also aligns with Chelsea’s broader strategy to invest in young, talented players who can contribute immediately and in the long term.
