Chelsea open up about Cole Palmer  ahead of Euro 2024 England opener

Chelsea goalkeeper Djorde Petrovic has made a hilarious admission about him and Cole Palmer ahead of the European Championships next week.

The pair were selected by both Serbia and England respectively, both of whom were drawn into Group C meaning they’ll play each other in their opening match of the tournament on Sunday, June 16 at the Stuttgart Arena. Ahead of the tournament though, Petrovic has already admitted he still has a lot to learn after his first season in the Premier League.

He told the club’s website: “I love to play football and to train, and to be with my teammates and all the staff here at Cobham. I will have a little bit of rest this summer, but not too much as I hope to go the European Championships with Serbia.

“I’m only 24 years old, so I’m still learning. I want to become the complete goalkeeper and work on the details because details at this level are everything. A small step can change your decision.

“So I am thinking about that every day and working to get better. That is my main target moving forward: improve and become a more complete goalkeeper for this club.”

The Serbian then highlighted the impact Palmer had had on him and his teammates after his stunning season which saw him score 25 goals and notch 15 assists across all competitions for the Blues. With the two set to clash next weekend, Petrovic let slip about a conversation they had over lunch.

“Cole is an amazing guy, always relaxed… maybe even more on the pitch than off it,” the 24-year-old admitted. “He has had an amazing season and helped the team a lot.

“Sometimes we have lunch together and I have beetroot a lot, most times. So, Cole gave me the nickname Beetroot. I needed one for him and he eats a lot of beans, which I think is normal for English people, so he is now Beans.

“I know people call him Cold Palmer, which is a correct nickname for him, but for me he is Beans.”
