Enzo Fernandez sends cryptic message to Argentina teammate Julian Alvarez amid Man City future

Enzo Fernandez has sent a message the way of Argentina teammate Julian Alvarez whilst away on international duty. It comes at a time whereby the Manchester City forward is the subject of much speculation over his future.

Chelsea have been linked with making an offer for the attacker as they look to bolster the options of new manager Enzo Maresca. And although Alvarez has been a hit during his two years at the Etihad Stadium, a lack of game time in important matches is said to have left him frustrated.

Despite only two outfield players getting more minutes than Alvarez in the Premier League last season – and he only failed to feature in two of the 38 games – he started just twice in Europe. He still managed 17 goals in all competitions with another 11 assists as well, an improvement on his 16 contributions in 2022/23.

It is these performances, which have somewhat slipped under the radar given the attraction of Erling Haaland and Phil Foden, that have grabbed the attention of Chelsea. Atletico Madrid – who have their own cohort of Argentines – and Paris Saint-Germain are also mentioned as being interested in acquiring his services this summer.

Alvarez is thought to be happy at City though, and would like to get more minutes in the biggest of games. City are also not expected to be thinking about a sale.

It is in this light that Fernandez, who missed the final weeks of last season due to an injury that had bothered him for months, has posted online with Alvarez. As the pair prepare for the Copa America this summer, Fernandez put an image of them both in conversation at training.

Fernandez is reaching out his hand as if to shake Alvarez’s, also appearing to speak to the 24-year-old. He has captioned the picture, “TODOS LOS DIAS LO MISMO @JULIAANALVAREZ [laughing face emoji]”, which roughly translates to, “All days the same.”

The meaning of the post is not immediately clear, but the caption is a song by Spanish artist Ladilla Rusa. It could possibly also be an inside joke between the pair, or a slight nod to the reports around Alvarez and his future.
