New Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca must do one thing to be a success at Stamford Bridge

Enzo Maresca is the new Chelsea manager, taking over from the departed Mauricio Pochettino. Maresca will leave his post as Leicester City boss, having got the Foxes promotion back to the Premier League in his only season in charge at the King Power Stadium.

Prior to his move to Leicester, Maresca acted as one of the assistant coaches to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, having been head of the Elite Development Squad in Manchester a couple of years prior to that, with a managerial stint at Parma sandwiched in between.

Maresca then, has spent plenty of time alongside Guardiola, learning from the great manager who made history by securing a fourth straight Premier League title with City in 2023/24.

And it is that connection that will see him become a success at Chelsea, providing he learnt from the Spaniard during their time together at City. That is the view of former City and Chelsea player Shaun Wright-Phillips.

Speaking to HighBet, Wright-Phillips said: “Looking to the future, It looks like Maresca will become the new Chelsea manager. He is someone who has worked with Pep Guardiola as one of his assistants at Manchester City, so it bodes well, if he can take the learnings from Pep and bring it to this Chelsea team.”

While Wright-Phillips believes Maresca has what it takes to be a success at Stamford Bridge, he was shocked by Pochettino’s departure. He added: “For me, I wouldn’t have let Poch leave.

“He had a tough job at the start but you can see the progress the team made towards the end of the season. They were scoring plenty of goals, playing attractive football and it seemed as if Chelsea would go into the 2024/25 season on the front foot and look to push on again.

“The young forward players were striking up a great relationship and they were playing for the manager, so I am very surprised Chelsea came to this decision to let Poch go.”
