Leicester City talisman Harry Winks has claimed Enzo Maresca is the best manager he’s played for – ahead of Jose Mourinho and Mauricio Pochettino.

The ex-Tottenham Hotspur midfielder is returning to the Premier League next season after winning the Championship with the Foxes but will do so without Maresca, who appears to be edging closer to becoming the new manager of Chelsea.

Having enjoyed a stormer of a season with the Italian, Winks, 28, certainly holds him in high regard. He has even claimed he is the best manager he’s ever played for, despite his experience of Jose Mourinho and Mauricio Pochettino at Spurs.

“By far the best manager I’ve worked for, he’s incredible,” the former England international told Sky Sports. “I think everyone will say he’s going right to the top, he’s got everything.

“He’s a great man manager, he’s tactically incredible, some of the decisions he tells us to do before the game and how you view the matches and it’s something that I’ve never experienced before in football. It’s opened my eyes a lot to football and the way it’s played, that kind of Pep Guardiola style as well, who he worked with for a very long time.

“I’m loving my football, it works perfectly for me, it’s exactly the kind of football that I want to play and I buy into and since he’s come in I’ve learned much and will continue to do that.”

Maresca first cut his teeth in the managerial game working with Manchester City’s Elite Development Squad, before a brief seven-month reign as Parma boss which resulted in his sacking in November 2021. He joined Leicester last summer after spending a season as Guardiola’s assistant coach at City where he played a part in their historic Treble triumph.

Winks said that his “eyes have been opened” to football under Maresca while adding: “It’s opened my eyes a lot to football and the way it’s played, that kind of Pep Guardiola style as well, who he worked with for a very long time.

I”’m loving my football, it works perfectly for me, it’s exactly the kind of football that I want to play and I buy into and since he’s come in I’ve learned so much and will continue to do that.”
