Marina Granovskaia job since leaving Chelsea

At one time, Marina Granovskaia was hailed as one of the best sporting directors in football. Working closely with former Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich, Granovskaia managed to sell the Blues as a top destination for some of the world’s greatest players. Among those she managed to bring through the door at Stamford Bridge were Eden Hazard and N’Golo Kante as the club continuously battled at the top of the Premier League.

However, after Abramovich left the club following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the 49-year-old followed swiftly afterwards with Todd Boehly bringing in his own team to oversee transfers. Chelsea’s downward spiral since then has been linked to Granovskaia’s departure with the Blues operating a scattergun approach to signings since the American joined.

Surprisingly since her exit, Granovskaia has not popped up at a rival football club so what has she been doing with her time post-Chelsea?

Immediate Abramovich reunion?

Considering her talent for player recruitment, Granovskaia was tipped to return to football straight away. Upon her exit from Stamford Bridge, the 49-year-old received a hefty £35million bonus and was linked with an immediate reunion with Abramovich at Spartak Moscow with the billionaire thought to be keen on the club.

However, this deal never materialised and Granovskaia has not been tempted by any other jobs.

Stamford Bridge return

With her popularity still high with the fanbase, it was not surprising to see the 49-year-old make a swift return to the Bridge but merely in a spectator capacity. After just one month of exiting the club, Granovskaia returned for the Chelsea vs Bayern Munich legends’ game in memory of Gianluca Vialli and the Game4Ukraine charity match.

It is understood that she was not invited back by Boehly and in the instance of the Game4Ukraine match, she purchased her tickets via general sale.

Drogba praise

As mentioned, Granovskaia, who graduated from Moscow State University in 1997, had no shortage of fans among the playing squad. Shortly after her exit, Chelsea legend Didier Drogba paid tribute to her achievements at the club and how she treated him during their working relationship.

“First of all, I want to thank Marina for always supporting me in the good moments and even the difficult moments at the club, when most people were criticising me for saying loud (maybe a bit too loud actually) and clearly what I felt unfair (Champions League Chelsea vs Barcelona 2009),” he wrote on Instagram.

“Only Marina and a handful of people understood it as someone who cared for the club, the badge and the fans. Her contribution to this club is beyond what people on the outside know.

“Over 19 years she worked so hard to build a world class club and to keep the blue flag flying high in the world of football.”

What is she doing now?

Ultimately, very few people know what Granovskaia is doing with her time. She was a partner in Abramovich’s Millhouse Capital and considering their close working relationship it is unlikely that she isn’t still working in that business with him.
