Victor Osimhen and Florian wirtz top Chelsea’s dream summer transfer window list

Chelsea have been the most active club in the transfer market and that fact does not look like changing as we enter 2024 and look ahead to the summer. Mauricio Pochettino appeared to hint after the game with Leicester that the profile of the squad was still not where he wanted it to be.

Chelsea might be scoring goals but they’re also conceding plenty which is creating uncertainty around whether or not the existing options are good enough. This is despite spending huge amounts on the back line including more than £100million on left-backs and more than £100million on centre-halves too.

With that in mind, we takes a look at what a dream summer window might look for Chelsea. We begin with the outgoings and the money made on the sale of a number of players which could be then reinvested into the squad.

Raheem Sterling’s stock has never been lower whilst if a defender is wanted then surely one would have to depart with any money for Malang Sarr a bonus. Conor Gallagher might bring in a sizeable fee but the stand-in captain provides consistency and identity which would ideally be kept.

A striker is certainly a point of desire with Nicolas Jackson not doing enough to convince the majority. If Chelsea have financial freedom then negotiating a favourable deal for Victor Osimhen below his £100million-plus release clause would indeed be the dream scenario.

With potentially Sterling out the door and Pochettino unconvinced it seems with his other options like Mykhailo Mudryk and Noni Madueke another wide player would be needed. Athletic Club’s Nico Williams has been linked with a move and the ability to play on both wings would certainly come as a benefit to the squad.

The idea of a front three of Williams, Nkunku and Osimhen is quite a scary one. The Spaniard being the more creative of the three with the latter pair getting the goals with plenty of depth on the bench.

A creative midfielder seems like a necessary addition considering a natural number ten is lacking from the squad. Bayer Leverkusen have been astonishingly good, leading the way in the Bundesliga with Florian Wirtz smashing their assist stats having racked up 17 for the season and 11 goals on top of that.

The German could be the perfect addition and combine brilliantly with Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez creating a long-term trio set for their prime years. The price however could be something of a stumbling block.

The defender is a key issue though without too many standout candidates. Perhaps Chelsea need to look at some of their Premier League rivals struggling with Profit and Sustainability Regulations and therefore a player like Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite could be the option to exploit.

Whatever happens, Chelsea guarantee drama in the summer. The biggest curiosity is perhaps how they plan to complete their business whilst complying with the framework of financial restrictions.
