Move will happen as Thiago Silva offered ‘dream’ transfer

Chelsea star Thiago Silva offered ‘dream’ transfer as director reveals move ‘will happen’

Fluminense’s sporting director Fred says Thiago Silva would be a “dream” to have on their team.

Thiago Silva, who is 39 years old, will leave Chelsea when the season ends unless he agrees a contract extension at Stamford Bridge. But the Blues appear more likely to bring in fresh legs this summer as they look to improve on what’s been an extremely underwhelming season.

Despite injury problems, Mauricio Pochettino has been reluctant to call upon the Brazilian legend recently, although Silva has had fitness issues of his own to deal with.

Reports in recent weeks have credited the Blues with an interest in Leny Yoro from Lille, with Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid also watching the young Frenchman. Ousmane Diomande from Sporting and Jean-Clair Todio from Nice are other names to have been frequently linked.

Silva came through the youth ranks at Fluminense before returning in 2006 after a spell in Europe. After three years with the Brazilian giants, he enjoyed legendary spells with AC Milan and PSG before joining Chelsea in 2020. Now a return to his hometown club is being mooted.

Speaking to ESPN Brasil, Fred said: “Thiago Silva has been a dream of ours for a long time, the president talks to him almost every week.

“Thiago has a contract in England, we’re rooting for him, I personally am a friend of his, I’m a big fan of his character, he deserves all the best. He knows that here the doors are wide open for him to return.

“There’s nothing [imminent]. We have to be careful not to put pressure on Thiago. The fans love Thiago, we love Thiago, and Thiago loves Fluminense. One day it’s inevitable, it will happen, it’s the player’s wish, the club’s wish and we hope it happens as soon as possible.”
