“What a player he is”: Todd Boehly has signed a ‘special’ player for Chelsea and teammate agrees

Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly has brought in lots of new faces at Chelsea, but not all have made a big splash.

Last season was tough for the Blues, and things haven’t improved greatly this season under boss Mauricio Pochettino. Chelsea didn’t make it into the top four of the Premier League last season, and they’re set to miss out on Champions League action again this year.

But Cole Palmer, who joined from Manchester City in summer 2023 for £40 million, has been shining bright. The England star has been outstanding, scoring 15 goals and setting up 11 more in 36 games for Chelsea.

Stan Collymore, the former Liverpool and England striker, is certainly a fan. He says the 21-year-old is a ‘special’ talent.

Collymore told CaughtOffside: “As for left-wing, I know Southgate has included Marcus Rashford and Anthony Gordon, but I would go with Cole Palmer.

“I know Palmer plays on the right for Chelsea, but he’s left-footed so can definitely do a job on that side of the pitch. He’s one of the most in-form attackers in Europe too so why not be brave and give him the chance? – I would – the kid looks special.”

Collymore’s comments tally with those of Palmer’s Chelsea teammate Trevoh Chalobah. The defender was full of praise for Palmer after the win against Newcastle United.

Chalobah said: “We have quality players, Cole is up there right now and it is important for us to get our best players on the ball – that is what we did against Newcastle.

“What a player he is. The confidence that he shows in every moment of the game, you can see he is so relaxed and he knows his ability.

“He’s the kind of player we need. Can he go to the Euros? Most definitely. He’s up there producing every week, so why not?”
