Chelsea identify Lille star as Thiago Silva replacement

Chelsea eyeing Thiago Silva replacement as Lille star emerges as transfer target

Chelsea have reportedly identified a replacement for Thiago Silva, but they might have to fight Real Madrid and PSG to get him.

Silva will be 40 in September and is likely to leave Chelsea when his contract ends after this season. Even though he’s played in 23 Premier League games for the Blues this season, he hasn’t been picked for the last two matches, even with players like Wesley Fofana, Benoit Badiashile and Levi Colwill injured.

The Evening Standard reports Chelsea want to sign Leny Yoro, a top young defender from Lille, as a possible replacement for Silva. The report says that the club bosses think the 18-year-old would be a great addition to the team, but other clubs want him too.

Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in Yoro and they can offer him the chance to play in the Champions League. The report also says that Chelsea are looking at other defenders, including Jean-Clair Todibo from Nice and Ousmane Diomande from Sporting.

Last October, Silva said he was thinking about retiring but also said he wants to keep working in football when he stops playing, reports the Mirror. “The end of my career is approaching and it’s not easy,” Silva told Sky Sports Italia.

“I have to think if I retire or if I continue, and where I go. There’s the family, I have two sons who play for Chelsea. At the moment I’ll take the opportunity to play and make the most of this last year of my contract at Chelsea. But I’m very happy and proud of the career I’ve had, of what I’m doing now at 39 years old.

“I have prepared all my life to make the most of my work, football is my passion. Surely after I retire I will continue in this world, I don’t know how yet.”
