Chelsea Owo Todd Boehly meets with Mauricio Pochettino after win over Newcastle

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed he met owner Todd Boehly briefly after the 3-2 victory over Newcastle United on Monday night.

The Blues started excellently and took the lead in the sixth minute as Cole Palmer’s shot was expertly flicked in by Nicolas Jackson. Chelsea struggled to add to their advantage and were pegged back before the break thanks to Alexander Isak’s curling effort.

Undeterred by the setback late in the first half, Chelsea retook the lead on 57 minutes as Palmer cut in from the right to fire past Martin Dubravka. The victory looked to have been 20 minutes later as Mykhailo Mudryk’s mazy run alluded the visitor’s defence and goalkeeper before the Ukrainian added the third.

Jacob Murphy pulled one back late on with a thunderous strike but it was little more than a consolation for the Magpies. Chelsea are now four games unbeaten in the Premier League and moved to 11th to ease some pressure on Pochettino after a disappointing first season at Stamford Bridge.

Post-match, the Argentinian told reporters he had spoken to Boehly after the game. Pochettino explained: “He came with his son, Behdad, all the owners were there.

“It was a nice chat, only a few minutes because I need to come for the interview and the press conference. The relationship is good.”

Pochettino will be hoping his good relationship with Boehly shall be enough to give him longer at Chelsea. The Blues are on course to miss out on European football next season but could qualify and end the campaign with a trophy should they win the FA Cup.
