Huge blow: Newcastle handed big injury blow ahead of Chelsea EPL clash

Newcastle handed big injury blow ahead of Chelsea Premier League fixture

Eddie Howe has shared that Newcastle United’s Kieran Trippier might not play until April, and consequently misses Monday’s game against Chelsea, because of a calf injury suffered against Wolves.

Tino Livramento is expected to fill his spot in his wake. Trippier won’t join the England team for their friendly matches against Brazil and Belgium this month thanks to his setback.

In Friday’s press conference, Howe said: “Kieran’s injury is not too bad – a minor injury. The scans showed enough to probably keep him out for the next two games, and we hope he will be back for the first game after the international break, although that’s not guaranteed.”

Trippier often travels with the team even when he’s injured, and Howe thinks he will do the same on Monday, so is set to be in the stands at Stamford Bridge.

Regarding the likely consequential inclusion of Livramento, Howe said: “It has been a brilliant start to his Newcastle career. He’s handled himself well, and played ever so well.”

“It goes without saying how good he is athletically and that showed with his goal against Wolves – it showed his running ability and then his technical quality. I have been delighted with how he has started here.”

As for Chelsea, Levi Colwill and Ben Chilwell are injured while Conor Gallagher is a doubt after coming down with a virus this week. He has not been able to train over the last three days and his inclusion seems improbable.

Pochettino said: “The problem with this kind of situation is you lose weight, the energy is always down, you need time to recover and see if it can be possible to be available and in which level you can be available. We need to assess him in the next few days.”
