Should Chelsea management sack Mauricio Pochettino or appoint Jose Mourinho? Pundit shares his view on the subject

Former Liverpool left-back and football pundit, Stephen Warnock has urged Chelsea to stick with Mauricio Pochettino, and forget about the idea of hiring Jose Mourinho for a third time.

Pochettino has struggled to really galvanise his Chelsea squad after more than seven months of being at the helm, and pressure is starting to mount on the 52-year-old.

It’s been reported by some outlets that the Chelsea board are starting to consider alternatives for Pochettino, even though they plan to stick with him until the end of the season, while a few other reports have linked some top managers with the Argentine’s job, including ex-AS Roma boss, Jose Mourinho, Sporting Lisbon head coach, Ruben Amorim, and Brighton manager, Roberto De Zerbi.

Warnock is however, of the opinion that hiring Mourinho again would be a terrible idea, and he believes Pochettino deserves more time.

He told Sky Sports, while discussing the Mourinho to Chelsea rumours: “For me, no, no. You have to move on from it. I think to go back for a third spell would be incredible for him from a nostalgic point of view, but I don’t think it’s the right fit.

“That period of history for Chelsea is gone, and you have to look forward. Would his style of management work on a squad like that? It might do. It might be something that galvanises the squad. But I still think you’ve to give Pochettino the opportunity.”
