Brentford manager claims he almost beat Chelsea with a weak squad

Brentford manager, Thomas Frank has admitted he enjoyed his side’s performance during the 2-2 draw with Chelsea on Saturday evening.

The Blues took a 1-0 lead through Nicolas Jackson in the first half after missing a few opportunities to score earlier in the game. However, the second half saw Brentford turn things around with goals from Mads Roerslev and Yoane Wissa.

Chelsea seemed destined for another loss away from Stamford Bridge, before Axel Disasi scored with a thumping header to ensure the spoils were shared, but despite the draw, Frank is pleased that his side played very well against ‘one of the biggest clubs in the league’.

Thomas Frank was happy with his side’s second-half display against Chelsea,

“I wanted a bounce back from the players after a bad performance against West Ham, because that was not us – and the response I saw today was extremely pleasing, I must say,” said the Dane.

“The first half was fine, good, not through the roof. But second half, wow, incredible. Playing against one of the biggest clubs in the league, we have so many key players out, and the way the players responded today is fantastic. I’m so, so pleased and so proud of them.

“The whole week they have been good, from coming in Tuesday, the way they spoke up at half-time, after the game, in training – it’s a special group of players and they are driving it from within the squad.”
