How Mauricio Pochettino could save Chelsea’s season by achieving this one thing

Mauricio Pochettino may be able to save his job as Chelsea boss if he can manage to win the Carabao Cup this season, according to journalist, Ben Jacobs, who was speaking on his Substack.

The Argentine has come under pressure from fans as Chelsea remain inconsistent under his leadership.

Pochettino was hired last summer, amid huge excitement from fans, who believed that things were finally going to improve at Stamford Bridge.

However, seven months down the line, not a lot has actually changed, as the Blues continue to languish in mid-table after garnering just 34 points from 24 Premier League matches.

Chelsea have also lost an embarrassing 10 league games this season, with the latest being the defeats against Wolves and Liverpool less than two weeks ago.

Fans called for Pochettino to be sacked after those defeats, but the 51-year-old has since masterminded back to back Chelsea wins against Aston Villa and Crystal Palace.

Jacobs now reports that Chelsea co-owner, Behdad Eghbali is actually a fan of the coach, and he has given Blues boss Mauricio Pochettino assurances over the security of his job at Stamford Bridge.

Jacobs also claims that Eghbali has told Pochettino that he must now silence critics by winning the Carabao Cup against Liverpool later this month.

If Pochettino is able to win a trophy in his debut season at Chelsea, despite the injury crisis that has rocked his team, the former Tottenham coach might just be able to get more backing from the club’s ownership, and consequently, secure yet another year for himself in the Chelsea dugout.
