William Gallas sends Jose Mourinho warning to Chelsea ahead of any decision by the management
William Gallas has warned that Chelsea’s current crop of players may not be able to work with Jose Mourinho if Mauricio Pochettino is sacked and the Portuguese is brought in to replace him.
Pochettino’s future at Stamford Bridge has come under increased scrutiny after Chelsea’s back to back defeats against Liverpool and Wolves in the Premier League last week.
The Blues sit 11th on the league table as a result, and a large section of the Chelsea fanbase have made it abundantly clear they want a change of managers in the dugout.
During Sunday’s 4-2 defeat to Wolves, fans could be heard chanting Mourinho’s name in the stadium, and even though the 60-year-old is currently available for hire, following his sack at AS Roma a few weeks ago, former Chelsea defender, Gallas has expressed doubt that the crop of players at the West London club at the moment would be able to cope with the Portuguese’ tactics because they lack ‘warriors’ and are ‘too soft’.
“With Jose, you have to give him the right players, it’s that simple,” Gallas told Genting Casino.
“You have to give him warriors and the right players who want to fight and who want to make sacrifices and aren’t scared to suffer. If Chelsea gave him these types of players, he would be a great choice.
“I don’t know the players so well but I think some of the players aren’t strong enough to work with Mourinho.
“You have to be strong not just for a few games but for the whole season. With Mourinho, you also have to fight for your place in training and I think some of Chelsea’s players are too soft.”
According to reports, Todd Boehly is not yet ready to part ways with Pochettino as things stand due to the huge £10m payout he would have to give the 51-year-old if that happens.
Chelsea are now more likely to stick with the former Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain boss unless things take a very nasty turn for the Blues.
