Ben Chilwell makes bizarre Chelsea claim as pressure mounts on Pochettino
Ben Chilwell has claimed that Chelsea didn’t show enough desire to win their Premier League clash with Wolves on Sunday, and that Gary O’Neil’s men were perhaps deserving victors in the game that saw the home team concede four times for the second time in a week.
Axel Disasi’s first half own-goal and a Matheus Cunha hat-trick cancelled out Cole Palmer’s early strike, as Wolves beat Chelsea 4-2 to move to 10th on the league table. Thiago Silva also scored a late goal for the Blues, but it all proved very little to alter the course of the game.
In a post-match interview, Chilwell said that Chelsea were not as competitive as they should have been, despite being the captain for the match.
“I think they probably showed that they wanted it more,” said the Chelsea vice-captain, as quoted by The Mirror.
“Of course we do want it but they probably showed it a little bit more on the pitch. 50/50s, running more. There’s no excuses. As soon as they scored the first goal they pretty much dominated the rest of the game.”
Chelsea are now down to 11th on the league table, as they get ready for their FA Cup fourth-round replay with Aston Villa on Wednesday.
