Reporter claims Chelsea unlikely to hold on to these four players after this season

Chelsea will very much try to offload some of their academy graduates come this summer, according to The Athletic Journalist, Simon Johnson.

The players include, Conor Gallagher, Armando Broja, Ian Maatsen and Trevoh Chalobah, who all came close to being sold in January before Maatsen and Broja ended up being the only ones that were loaned out to Borussia Dortmund and Fulham, respectively.

“While Gallagher, Chalobah, Broja and Maatsen were not sold in this window, it will take some turnaround for them to still be Chelsea players next season. The club see them as a good avenue to generate pure profit on the books and help fund other transfers,” Johnson wrote.

There have been whispers that Chelsea risk incurring FFP sanctions from the Premier League if they’re unable to raise up to £100m before June, which means that the impending sales of the aforementioned players may not just be about raising money for new signings, but also about balancing the books after the club spent over £1b on transfers in the last year.
