Chelsea’s Bold Move: Selling Defender or Attacker Over Crucial £45M Lynchpin?

Nizaar Kinsella’s update on Conor Gallagher’s situation at Chelsea today claims that the club “would rather sell either Armando Broja or Trevoh Chalobah.”

The Blues need to sell a home grown player to balance the books after such heavy spending a year ago, and all 3 are up for grabs. They want £45m for Gallagher, but it doesn’t look like anyone will come close.

The other two aren’t generating much interest, but can really be pushed towards the exit door now that Nicolas Jackson is back and there is more depth in defence.

Of course, keeping Gallagher creates further problems down the line, as Gallagher isn’t getting any closer to signing a new deal. But those in charge of building the squad seem to have finally seen the reality of the situation and realised that giving Mauricio Pochettino the strongest possible squad to compete with between now and the end of the season is as important any any financial chicanery.
