Chelsea will be forced to sell star player to fund key January transfer

Exclusive: Chelsea’s January Dilemma – ‘Forced to Sell’ for New Signings, Insider Claims”

Football Insider have today reported an “exclusive” which claims that Chelsea “will be forced to sell a big name star this month to fund any January business.”

We’re not sure quite how exclusive it can claim to be. While nobody has come out and said it openly, this situation has been pretty evident even since the summer when our spending reached comical levels.

Our business since then has been focused on getting players out, and the lack of real concrete progress in terms of any incoming deals this month has made it pretty clear that nobody will be coming in (at least for any decent fee) without someone also going out.

So far, Ian Maatsen has been sent on loan, with a big chunk of cash likely coming in the summer from his sale. But that doesn’t help the immediate picture, and we’re sure getting an unwanted player like Trevoh Chalobah off the books would be a dream end to the window for the club’s bean counters.
