Pochettino confirms Nkunku could be ready for this key Chelsea game
Mauricio Pochettino has made it clear that Christopher Nkunku and Malo Gusto will not be available for Chelsea’s FA Cup clash with Aston Villa on Friday.
Nkunku is recovering from a hip problem, while his French teammate recently suffered a muscle overload. The pair have resumed team training, but Pochettino doesn’t think they’re ready to be involved against Unai Emery’s side.
“They could be available for Liverpool. We are positive, but we will see,” the Argentine said, as quoted by Nizaar Kinsella on X.
Pochettino also gave an update on Ben Chilwell who made his first Chelsea start in months on Tuesday, as the Blues qualified for the Carabao Cup final with a 6-2 aggregate win over Middlesbrough at Stamford Bridge.
Pochettino has now stated that the 27-year-old may not be in his starting XI to face Villa.
“He’s an important player if he is fit and can cope with the 90 minutes. He needs to build his fitness. Now, we have doubt to start him tomorrow as we are assessing him if he can cope with another game. It’s a massive decision,” the Chelsea boss added.
