Gary Neville confirmed Chelsea want to sell star player after what display against Middlesbrough
Gary Neville has claimed that Chelsea may be gearing up to sell Conor Gallagher after the midfielder was left on the bench during Tuesday’s Carabao Cup semi-final return leg against Middlesbrough.
Gallagher, who is usually one of the first names on the team sheet for Chelsea, surprisingly had to come on from the bench in the second half, as the Blues thumped Boro 6-1 at Stamford Bridge.
Cole Palmer was Chelsea’s main man on the night, scoring two goals, as he played just behind Armando Broja in the number ten position.
After Gallagher’s introduction, Sky Sports commentator, Neville raised doubts about the 23-year-old’s future at Chelsea, amid reported interest from Tottenham.
The ex-Manchester United defender said: “Are they really going to sell him?”
Fellow commentator Bill Leslie replied: “Well if you are in the camp that think that they might, the fact he was left out tonight, does that tell you anything?
Neville then claimed: “Well, that’s what I thought when I saw the team sheet come through. It’s got to the point where you have spent that much money that you have got to sell one of your own, who is playing pretty well, to fund it.”
Gallagher did grab two assists after coming on in the second period, and might have also reminded the Chelsea hierarchy of what they’ll be missing if they eventually do sell him to another club.
