He’s not ready: Chelsea told their striking transfer target is not ready for a big move

Evan Ferguson may be a very talented forward at the moment, but he’s not anywhere near ready to play for a big side.

This is according to Brighton CEO, Paul Barber, who believes that the 19-year-old still has plenty to learn before he can develop into the lethal finisher many know he can morph into.

Barber however, does admit that selling Ferguson is something that the Seagulls do intend to do at some point in the future.

The Evening Standard has reported that Chelsea have held discussions about a potential move for the young striker, who could cost his next club as much as £100m.

“Someone like Evan, who’s an incredible talent, he’s still got a way to go to learn his trade,” Barber told talkSPORT.

“Letting him go at some point in the future is going to be I’m sure part of the overall plan, both from our side and Evan’s side, but in the short-term we want to try and make sure we develop him the best we can.”

Ferguson has made 16 Premier League appearances for Brighton this season, managing a return of six goals in that time.
