Enzo Fernandez reveals the difference between Pochettino’s reign to Graham Potter and Lampard

Enzo Fernandez has revealed that the managerial change that took place at Chelsea last summer played a role in helping him become better as a player at the club.

Enzo joined the Blues in January 2023 after a very fruitful outing with Argentina at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, which culminated in his country winning the tournament, as he was named Young Player of the competition.

Graham Potter was Chelsea boss when the 23-year-old arrived at Stamford Bridge from Benfica, but that changed about six months later when Mauricio Pochettino was appointed head coach of the club ahead of the current campaign. And Enzo has now admitted that having a coaching team that speaks the same language as he does has been of great benefit to his career.

He told the official Chelsea website: “The first six months were difficult, the second part of last year was better. That the current coaching staff speak Spanish has helped me a lot. I am working to get to my best level and hope I can meet the club’s expectations of me.”

Enzo has certainly not hit the heights expected of him, especially going by the hefty fee it cost Chelsea to buy him from Benfica, but he has shown time and again that he has what it takes to become a very influential midfielder, and it’s just a matter of time before we begin to see that side of him more consistently.
