Chelsea rejects transfer option for a striker with 3 goals in 19 games, sending a clear message
The January transfer window always whips past at some speed, and we’re already at the 17th.
Chelsea have been desperate for more striking options all season, and they’re at their most desperate now, with Nicolas Jackson away at AFCON. But no rumours are particularly convincing right now, and in fact Fabrizio Romano has just shut down one of the potential avenues we had to a short term solution.
Links had started to emerge between Chelsea and some of the strikers playing in Saudi Arabia, including Karim Benzema and Roberto Firmino. But while Benzema is clearly keen to come back to Europe, Firmino seems more settled. He has 3 goals in 19 games for Al Ahli, so he’s hardly tearing it up there either.
Romano has just confirmed that Firmino is “not planning to leave Al Ahli,” and that he has a “very clear message from the camp” that the striker is staying there.
