Liverpool set to surprise Chelsea with an offer for emerging academy star
Liverpool are retaining an interest in Chelsea defender Levi Colwil, Graeme Bailey is reporting.
He says that the Reds are keen to see how bad Chelsea’s financial fair play worries are by offering us big money for an academy player whose sale could bail us out in a major way.
We heard about their interest back in the summer, but we laughed it off at the time. It still seems unlikely now, as Colwill is a starter every week and has the potential to be one of the best defenders in the league.
Hopefully the impending sales of Lewis Hall and Ian Maatsen in the summer, plus the likely departure of Trevoh Chalobah this January, should bring in enough “pure profit” from academy products that we don’t have to seriously consider these offers for Colwill or any interest in Conor Gallagher either.
We can’t rule anything out, but if those in charge have any clue what they’re doing, they’ll shut this down before it even gets started.
