Chelsea could be much better following the return of this top star

Chelsea are up to ninth in the Premier League after beating Fulham 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.

The game provided the Blues with an opportunity to return to winning ways after narrowly losing to Middlesbrough in the Carabao Cup semi-final last Tuesday.

Cole Palmer scored Chelsea’s goal from the penalty spot to help put Chelsea over the line, but aside from that, fans also got to see some of their injured players return to the side.

This includes Ben Chilwell and Carney Chukwuemeka, who hadn’t played a game for many months. The two players were introduced later in the second half, as were Alfie Gilchrist and Noni Madueke, but it was the Chelsea vice-captain that impressed ESPN pundit, Steve Nicol the most, and he says the Blues got a lot better when the 27-year-old came on.

The Liverpool legend told ESPN: “I would say the one bright spark today [Saturday] was that Chilwell came back and actually, just that short period of time he was on, things took a turn for the better.

“Now, I don’t know whether I’m looking for something or whether it actually happened, but certainly if they got him back and Reece James would help, but he doesn’t look like he’s coming back any time soon.”

Chilwell, like Reece James has suffered from a lot of injuries in the past two, three years. The pair have been very important to Chelsea over the years, and are now captain and vice-captain.

The club has however been doing so much to ensure they find a lasting solution to the recurrent injuries, and we can only hope something works out for the better soon.
