Pochettino and players need rest before returning to Cobham

Chelsea’s players and staff are now currently on a winter break after they beat Fulham 1-0 at Stamford bridge on Saturday afternoon.

December was a busy period of games for Chelsea even without playing European football this season, but they now have an opportunity to rest up a bit with a small break in play.

After Fulham, Chelsea don’t play now until Tuesday the 23rd January against Middlesbrough in the League Cup semi final second leg, a game they are already 1-0 down in from the first leg.

So they have some time off now, three days to be precise, as confirmed by manager Mauricio Pochettino. And then they will return to Cobham from Wednesday in order to prepare for the big cup game.

Pochettino has explained how he and his players need this time to rest and rest, and it looks like many of the players have headed to cold winter destinations in the snow.

“We need some rest for the players, and the staff, also,” Pochettino told reporters as cited by Football London.

“It’s [been] a really busy period and they need to breathe a little bit. Yes, and then we are going to prepare. We will have seven days to prepare for Middlesbrough. We will then play on the Friday in the FA Cup against Aston Villa and then on Wednesday against Liverpool in the Premier League, so three different competitions. So we need three days off.

“Too many of our players are going to be involved in March in the international break. Too many competitions but they need now to to have some break.”
