Pochettino pleased with mini break; no excuses for bad results now as very useful
Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has been speaking to the media about his team’s mini break and their important triple game week following that.
It’s been a tough festive period, and the coach is clearly delighted to get the chance to give some days off, especially on the back of some good results.
“We need to give some rest to the players and the staff also because it is a really busy period now and they need to breathe a little bit. This break is very useful,” Pochettino said.
“Then we are going to prepare. We have seven days to prepare for the second leg against Middlesbrough on Tuesday and then on Friday in the FA Cup against Aston Villa, and then Wednesday again in the Premier League.
“Three games in three different competitions – but I think they need three days off. They need to revive, so it is important and then they can attack the second half of the season.
“Too many of our players are going to be involved in March with the international break and too many competitions that they now need to have some break.”
We’re really excited to see what Chelsea look like when they come back refreshed and ready and well prepared for this triple header. We’re endless optimists, but we can’t help hope that Christopher Nkunku, Ben Chilwell, Carney Chukwuemeka, Benoit Badiashile and other returning players can take us up a level.
But then again we’ve had a few fortnights this season where we’ve hoped to see major progress in terms of coaching and seeing a system and some chemistry develop, but we don’t seem to be playing any better collectively than we were in August.
Let’s hope this time, with all those players returning, proves to be the charm.
