“Four underperforming Chelsea stars disappointed in a lackluster display.”
Chelsea have just lost to Middlesbrough in the EFL Cup semi final first leg.
They were facing a team in mid table in the Championship. Not only that, but Boro lost two players to injury early in the game.
Yet Mauricio Pochettino’s team were unable to create anything consistently, and as the game wore on they looked more and more clueless.
Yes they created a couple of chances that they could have scored from, but over the course of about 110 total minutes of football, against a team sitting on the edge of their own box, they should be creating so much that scoring is inevitable.
Following on from the dire first hour against Preston on Saturday, it’s further evidence that despite the hundreds of millions spent on this team, there is a dire lack of creativity and goals, especially when the opposition sit deep.
Enzo Fernandez didn’t unlock despite plenty of time on the ball. Nor did any of the 3 wingers Pochettino used over the course of the game.
