Chelsea’s £60m asking price may decrease to £45m due to escalating cash flow desperation
Ben Jacobs acts as something of a mouthpiece for the current ownership, so we tend to take what he says in his exclusive column for Caughtoffside very seriously.
This week, his hot topic is Conor Gallagher, whose name is still linked constantly with a move away. Jacobs carries the party line that Gallagher is available for £60m. It’s a hefty fee, and we’re starting to suspect that nobody out there is going to put that sort of money on the table.
It seems Jacobs and the ownership know that. He admits here that £45-50m “could potentially tempt Chelsea to sell.” He adds that Chelsea are “unlikely to come significantly down on price,” that’s already a huge discount if a team is to get Gallagher for £45m.
Unless something major changes (like a new contact for the midfielder), it looks like this controversial situation may drag on until the summer, when it will be easier for them to smuggle Gallagher out without weakening the team so immidiately.
