21-year-old signs new contract with Chelsea
Fabrizio Romano has claimed that one Chelsea player has just put pen to paper on a brand new deal at Chelsea.
He took to Twitter to state that Ian Maatsen has now signed a two year extension on his deal at Stamford Bridge, although it does include a release clause.
Maatsen is expected to join Borussia Dortmund this week after a verbal agreement was reached between the two parties over a loan deal for the rest of the season.
Chelsea supporters may have been left wondering the logic behind the deal, especially as no fee was being reported as obligatory at the end of his spell with the German side.
However, Romano has now claimed a release clause will be valid in his contract from this summer, after his spell with the Bundesliga side is over.
He said: “Ian Maatsen signs new deal at Chelsea valid until June 2027, two year extension… and it will include a release clause! The clause will be valid starting from summer 2024.

“Maatsen will fly to Dortmund tonight to join BVB on loan, medical tomorrow as revealed.”
Chelsea will now be heavily relying on two of their current left-back options to share the majority of the minutes for the rest of the season.
However, it is noted that neither Ben Chilwell nor Marc Cucurella are actually fit at the moment, meaning there is no clear option to naturally play there.
Up until now, the vast amount of games have seen Levi Colwill play there, a centre-back in his first season at Stamford Bridge.
While he clearly looks far more suited to being at the heart of defence, the England international has done a fine job of things when called upon, and is looking more comfortable there as time has gone on through this season.
