Manager expresses frustration with star player despite victory at full time

Mauricio Pochettino’s post match comments about Cole Palmer last night were interesting – he pointed out at length how pleased he was with the youngster’s season despite being “disappointed” with a miss in the preceding game.

But the evidence on the pitch was a little different, showing a frustrated Pochettino chatting to Palmer at full time, including some pretty physical contact.

That’s just Pochettino’s manner, a little more Latin than some English fans are used to, and it doesn’t indicate a problem between the two. But it does show that the coach was perhaps more frustrated than he let on once he had calmed down and was facing the press.

It wasn’t Palmer’s best game, there’s no denying it. But he’s been a star for Pochettino this season and has bailed his coach out plenty of times. Palmer isn’t the sort of player to back down from a confrontation, and we’re sure he just stood his ground.
