A few weeks’ injury for Chelsea’s summer signing is a positive outcome
The usually pretty reliable Fraser Gillan is reporting on Romeo Lavia’s latest injury, saying the summer signing has “bad bruising to his thigh” and could be out for “a few weeks.”
Lavia had only just made his Chelsea debut after 6 months injured, against Crystal Palace. But by full time he was visibly struggling and Mauricio Pochettino spoke very negatively after the game about a setback for the former Southampton midfielder.
If this is true, it’s actually great news. When we saw him go off we feared the worst – a muscle or ligament injury which would have been quite normal given he’s been out for so long and after he was rushed back.
A dead leg – while painful – means no lasting damage, and should mean he’s back in action before too long. It does leave Chelsea very short in the middle of the pitch, although Enzo Fernandez was fit enough to come off the bench in our last game at least.
We expect more detailed updates from Pochettino in his press conference later.
