Cole Palmer can establish himself as one of the Premier League’s top long-range shooters
For a good few years, we’ve cried out for a Chelsea midfielder to take more shots, and finally we’ve got one.
N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic and Jorginho were our trio in the middle for a long time, and for all their many qualities, none of them were skilled ranged shooters.
Cole Palmer on the other hand, never fails to have a go if the chance presents itself.
Of course he plays further forward than those three, generally, but his numbers are still far beyond even the wingers and attacking midfielders we’ve used in recent years.
He’s averaging 2.4 shots per game in the Premier League joint top on the team with striker Nicolas Jackson.
As we saw from his rasping goal against Luton at the weekend, he can hit all manner of efforts and usually test the goalkeeper.
With Christopher Nkunku ready to stretch defences and tee him up, Palmer could really establish himself as one of the league’s top threats from range.
