Chelsea moves away from easy January signing targets
If you’d told us a few weeks ago that Chelsea were going to sign a number 9 in January, we’d probably have made Serhou Guirassy the favourite.
Victor Osimhen and Ivan Toney simply look too expensive to sign in January, and there’s no guarantee they would come. If Chelsea wanted a striker they could be certain of signing up easy, Guirassy and his release clause would have been the way to go.
But reports coming from Germany seem to claim that he’s going nowhere, and will stay at Stuttgart until the summer at least. The club reckon he’s staying, and none of the in form striker’s suitors look like they are going to step up and take a punt.
A big part of this seems to be his participation in the Africa Cup of Nations. Chelsea’s most pressing need for a forward is while Nicolas Jackson is away at that tournament. So signing Guirassy wouldn’t have helped much. It seems a lot of other teams are taking the same view.
