Gallagher finally makes Chelsea transfer decision

Conor Gallagher makes Chelsea transfer decision while Pochettino awaits Todd Boehly

Conor Gallagher wants to stay at Chelsea beyond the January transfer window, understands, as Mauricio Pochettino waits on the board’s decision. The 23-year-old midfielder has around 18 months remaining on his contract with the club and there has been plenty of speculation over his future.

Gallagher has been linked with Tottenham over recent weeks as Spurs look to take advantage over the uncertainty regarding his future at Stamford Bridge. However, the England international would like to stay at Chelsea, the club he has been with since the age of eight, and Pochettino also hopes for the same.

There have been pre-contract talks between Gallagher and Chelsea but has learned that there is nothing on the table yet in terms of a concrete offer, with the player waiting for a more lucrative offer than his current deal, given his standing in the squad now.

“He’s important because of Chelsea values,” Pochettino said on Gallagher last month. “He’s a product that came from the academy.

“Of course, he loves the club and he’s very committed. Yes, I think he is a really important player, always the type of player that the coaching staff want, and the team.”

Tottenham are one of the clubs keeping an eye on Gallagher and his situation at Chelsea. understands, however, that there have been no talks yet between Spurs and Chelsea regarding a move for Gallagher.

A temptation of Chelsea’s could be that selling the midfielder would come with the most efficient benefits financially because he is a product of the club’s academy system. The Blues are looking to balance the books and comply with Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations after some extortionate spending under the ownership of Todd Boehly.

Trevoh Chalobah is also in this category. While nothing is advanced yet regarding a move away, understands the defender is likely to leave Chelsea this month.

Chalobah came close to joining Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window, but a move was not materialised in time. The Cobham graduate, who is yet to play a competitive match under Pochettino because of injury, is a target for numerous Premier League clubs this month.
