Romano: 24-year-old Chelsea player to delay decision on future
It is still not quite clear which club Trevoh Chalobah is going to join if he does decide to leave Chelsea this month.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Trevoh Chalobah is going to take the patient approach with his future.
In one of his columns on Substack, the transfer expert said: “From what I’m hearing, it will take some time for Chalobah to assess his options.”
The 24-year-old has not been playing this season because of injury but even if he had been fit, game time still probably would have been limited.
Chalobah is currently up against Thiago Silva, Axel Disasi and Benoit Badiashile for a starting place in Mauricio Pochettino‘s side.
Trevoh Chalobah still likely to leave Chelsea
Everything is still pointing towards a Chelsea exit for Chalobah, even if he wants to take a bit longer to make a decision on his future.
As alluded to earlier, there is quite a bit of competition for a starting place in the Blues’ central defence. If the former England U21 international wants regular minutes, then he is going to have to leave Stamford Bridge.
In terms of where Chalobah could end up, he has been linked with a move to Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma.
Roma are usually a top six team in Italy and Mourinho is an incredible coach, so it could be a really good move for him.
Chelsea fans would probably not be upset if Chalobah stayed. He came through the club’s academy and is quite a useful player to have around given that he can play in more than one position.
Again, though, Chalobah looks almost certain to leave west London this month. For the sake of his career, he probably has to. It is just a matter of what club he is going to join, with Roma potentially an option.
