Injury dashes hopes of £60m player being sold

Any hopes Chelsea had of moving Marc Cucurella on in January have been crushed, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Writing in his Daily Briefing for Caughtoffside, the transfer insider has shot down the short lived rumours about Sevilla interest in the left back, because of the injury Cucurella has, one which has required surgery and will rule the Spaniard out for some weeks.

As Romano says, a move to Seville was never a likely move in any case, we assume simply because they wouldn’t be a tempting destination for him, nor are they likely to be able to afford the loan fee and wage contribution that Chelsea would demand.

As with so many other players in recent times, the problem with overpaying so heavily for a player isn’t just the initial waste of cash, it also makes it impossible to find a new destination for them when you want to move them on, unless you’re willing to take a major accounting hit – which we can’t afford to.

The mess continues.
