What Guardiola said about Chelsea star after unexpected draw at Stamford Bridge

what Pep Guardiola said about Chelsea right after unexpected draw at Stamford Bridge

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has labelled Chelsea as a “fantastic” team after the 4-4 draw at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea managed to nick a point at the end thanks to a penalty from former Manchester City player Cole Palmer, and Pep Guardiola has hailed Mauricio Pochettino‘s side in a post-match interview with beIN SPORTS.

The visitors managed to take the lead on more than one occasion, but the home side would not give up and earned a well-deserved point in the end.

Next up for Chelsea in the Premier League is Newcastle United, who will be looking to bounce back after their defeat to Bournemouth yesterday.

Pep Guardiola on Chelsea

Guardiola was impressed with how Chelsea played against his side.

Speaking to beIN SPORTS after the game, the City manager said: “They started really well. We struggled. They’re aggressive. They’re a fantastic team.

“We were close. We could win, we could lose, we can draw. Yeah, good point for us.”

Can Chelsea challenge Manchester City for the title?

This season, no. Even though they were able to hold them to a draw today, there is still too much of a gap.

After all, this is a side who finished 45 points behind the Premier League champions last term. There is quite clearly a lot of work to do.

However, going forward, challenging for the title has to be the Blues’ aim. They remain one of the biggest clubs in the country and have invested so much money in their squad under Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital.

It would be disappointing if they failed to close the gap with their rivals in the next few years.

For now, though, Chelsea just have to concentrate on qualifying for the Champions League. And if players such as Cole Palmer can continue playing like how they have been in recent weeks, it may not be out of reach.

Palmer has been in sensational form since joining Chelsea and was recently compared to Argentina legend Angel Di Maria by his manager.
