Mauricio Pochettino just issued a strong Manchester City warning ahead of the Chelsea clash
Chelsea have been sent a clear warning ahead of their Premier League clash against Manchester City. The Blues are hoping to pick up back-to-back wins for the second time this season after their 4-1 victory against Tottenham on Monday.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side fell behind in the opening 15 minutes against Spurs – but soon found their way back into the game after Cole Palmer’s penalty levelled the scoreline before half-time. Nicolas Jackson went on to score his first hat-trick for the club as Spurs went down to nine men as Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie were sent off.
Chelsea did well to keep the game within their grasp after the opening exchanges looked as though Tottenham would run away with a win. Pochettino’s frustrations were clear to see as the Blues struggled to find a way through Spurs – despite Ange Postecoglou’s side having a two-man disadvantage in the second half.
Chelsea did manage to get the goals needed to put the game out of sight and pick up a crucial win, but there was a sense of disappointment regarding how long it took the young side to figure out how to break through Tottenham’s high line. With Manchester City heading to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea this Saturday, Shaun Wright-Phillips has warned Pochettino that if City make a breakthrough, then the floodgates could open and it could become “hunting season” for Pep Guardiola’s side.
“Against Chelsea, City can play the way everyone knows they can and grind Chelsea down to eventually beat the press as they always do,” he told NewBettingSites.uk. “If they make that breakthrough then it will be like hunting season and they will just keep on getting through.
“A lot depends on whether Haaland will be fit to play because if he isn’t then Chelsea can play a higher line to try and compact City because they won’t have to worry about him running in behind,” he added. Erling Haaland scored a brace in City’s Champions League win against Young Boys on Tuesday night and looks set to start against Chelsea this weekend.
Thiago Silva and Co. will have a difficult task keeping the Norwegian forward quiet – whilst Jeremy Doku represents a new, tricky threat to contend with. Pochettino will be boosted by the news that Enzo Fernandez has declared himself ready for the weekend after being withdrawn against Spurs after an hour of action.
