Chelsea handed Enzo Fernandez injury update as Romeo Lavia hint emerges ahead of Man City clash
Chelsea are set to face Manchester City in a huge Premier League clash on Sunday afternoon. The Blues moved up to 10th in the table following their 4-1 win against Tottenham on Monday night.
Here’s the latest news from Stamford Bridge….
Romeo Lavia hands Chelsea two-word injury update
Romeo Lavia has posted a positive message online as the Chelsea midfielder continues to recover from an injury that has seen him not yet play for the club. Having signed from Southampton in a big-money deal over the summer, arriving in the same week as Moises Caicedo, the teenager has had a frustrating start to life in blue.
Having been at the centre of one of the big transfer stories of the summer it was a disrupted pre-season for Lavia as he prepared for a move and that saw him given time away from the first team in the weeks after arriving. There was an expectation and hope that he would be fit enough to play after the September international break.
“He needs a few weeks to be ready to be involved with the team,” manager Mauricio Pochettino said in August. “He is working to try and catch his teammates. For Romeo we need to wait a few weeks.”
Gallagher talks
Chelsea are preparing to ‘step up’ contract talks with Conor Gallagher following his strong start to the season. The 23-year-old had been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge in the summer – with Tottenham, West Ham and Liverpool all touted as interested parties.
Gallagher has adapted to Mauricio Pochettino’s style of play well – highlighted by the fact he has won possession in the attacking third more times (18) than any other player in Europe’s top five leagues this season. Gallagher is currently valued at €60million (£52million) by CIES Football Observatory.
According to 90min, Pochettino is backing the club’s plans to extend Gallagher’s deal beyond 2025. Chelsea executives are hoping to tie the academy graduate down to a fresh long-term deal before the winter transfer window opens on January 1.
Enzo Fernandez provides Chelsea injury update
Enzo Fernandez has eased fears that he had suffered an injury with an update on his fitness ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League clash against Manchester City on Sunday. The Argentine midfielder was withdrawn after 58 minutes by Mauricio Pochettino against Tottenham on Monday night.
Mykhailo Mudryk replaced Fernandez as Chelsea looked to make the most of their two-man advantage over Spurs. However, this led to many fans fearing that the World Cup winner had picked up an issue.
Fernandez was left out of the squad that suffered a 2-0 defeat against Brentford at Stamford Bridge after picking up a minor injury. The 22-year-old returned to face Spurs, but failed to complete 90 minutes for the first time this season when having started in the Premier League.
