Chelsea is standing firm and not tempted by a €25m fee for the Cherki deal

Caughtoffside today report on Lyon midfielder Rayan Cherki, saying that the French club’s struggles in Ligue 1 mean that the the coveted attacking midfielder will be available for just €25m.

Chelsea were linked heavily in the summer, but Fabrizio Romano has recently explained that the rumours went far beyond what he was hearing. The 20 year old has a lot of talent, and we’re sure a big club will take a chance on him soon. But Romano insisted that Chelsea were only briefly considering the idea of signing him.

We’re just not sure that Chelsea’s interest in Cherki was ever that strong, and we certainly don’t think that it will have outlasted the immediate and impressive success of Cole Palmer.

This might have been a tempting deal when Christopher Nkunku picked up a serious injury, but we’ve now got him close to a return and Palmer looking great.

Someone else is going to have to roll the dice on Cherki.
