Christopher Nkunku set for Chelsea training return as Blue boss Mauricio Pochettino handed injury boost
Chelsea star Christopher Nkunku is expected to return to light training as he steps up his recovery from a knee injury. The Frenchman is yet to feature in the Premier League for the Blues after completing a £52million move to Stamford Bridge in the summer transfer window.
Nkunku scored 16 goals and provided six assists in 25 Bundesliga appearances last term. The France international enjoyed a promising pre-season with the Blues before sustaining a knee injury that has seen him miss every game of the 2023/24 campaign so far.
However, there is optimism that Nkunku could return to action before 2024 as he steps up his recovery. According to, Si Phillips Talks Chelsea, the summer signing is splitting his time between Paris – where Nkunku is visiting specialists – and London where he continues to recover and do physio work.
The 25-year-old is close to a return to cardio work, which is a key step towards him returning to first team training. Phillips wrote: “Chelsea will soon be setting him up with light training before introducing him back in to full team training.
“They [Chelsea] will be super careful and cautious as they look to reintroduce Nkunku to training and back into the squad, but it’s sounding positive right now and the recovery is going well. We should soon be seeing him back in Chelsea training gear at the very least, and then in a matchday squad.”
Nkunku has shared plenty of updates throughout his recovery from injury on social media – posting pictures of him doing gym work over the past few months. The Frenchman’s return to light training a huge boost for Mauricio Pochettino and there is optimism that Nkunku will have a huge impact on the squad when he is fully fit.
