Burnley manager, Vincent Kompany has hailed Eden Hazard as a football great, following his retirement from the game.

Hazard spent seven years in the Premier League, playing against the likes of Kompany, who was still with Manchester City at the time.

The Belgian was a thorn in the flesh of many Premier League clubs, and Kompany is well-aware of his quality.

In his tribute to Hazard, who announced his retirement more than a week ago, Kompany said: “For me, at a certain point, and he knows it, he was a player who was just below Ronaldo and Messi in terms of level.

“He had a great career, also for Belgium.

“We didn’t expect to have players at that level, but we had one of the magicians of the game.”
