Revealed – Chelsea’s backup striker options still being considered for January move
Simon Phillips’ exclusive update on our striker situation on his Substack today is mainly focused on the two top targets we have up front – the realistic (Ivan Toney) and the fantastic (Victor Osimhen).
But there’s a strong warning in there that Toney may head to Arsenal anyway, leaving us to look further down the list.
Phillips has updates on a few other options we have on the table – Youssouda Moukoko is someone we’ve watched “for a long time,” but isn’t really the profile we’re looking for. Clearly more of a number 9 is what we’re prioritising.
That means Benjamin Sesko is a good shout, and Phillips says his source says we continue to scout him this season.
Our efforts to sign Dusan Vlahovic have clearly taken a back seat since the summer, and that’s backed up here. Jonathan David is also on the list, but “not close to the top of it.”
As for Tammy Abraham – he’s not really being considered now.
So it seems like even if Toney and Osimhen are off the menu, we could be in for an interesting January.
