Thiago Silva and Ian Maatsen both express their delight at what happened at Chelsea yesterday

The duo commented on Reece James’ Instagram post stating that he was back in first team training ahead of the return of the Premier League.

James had been reported to have suffered a setback in his long journey back to fitness sometime recently, which had been forcing him to train alone over the international break.

However, the mood was certainly boosted when photos emerged of the club captain back amongst his teammates just days before the Blues welcome Arsenal to Stamford Bridge.

The hopes are obviously that his time off has left him in a position where he is fit enough to start at the weekend. The prospect of facing Gabriel Martinelli is for sure an intimidating one.

It seems his return has been a boost of morale among some members of the squad too. After he posted on Instagram, Silva and Maatsen were quick to comment their happiness at the situation.

The veteran Brazilian has been an ever-present in the starting side this season, and recent injury concerns for players around him mean that is unlikely to change this weekend.

Maatsen meanwhile is pushing for his first start in the Premier League for the club, after impressing in pre-season and cameo appearances up to now.

The left-back position has been held down for the majority of the campaign by Levi Colwill, although problems for Benoit Badiashile, Axel Disasi, Trevoh Chalobah and Wesley Fofana have left the centre-back role short on options.

He could therefore be moved there, which would actually be playing him in the position he has featured in the most in professional football before this season.
